OSS/Commercial driver v4 beta!

There is no announcement (dunno why), the original RPMs are at http://www.4front-tech.com/test/, or you can use my pkgbuild http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?d … =1&ID=7134 (binary is for kernel26ck 2.6.18 only)

Some changes: · Configuration and file path are all changed, see http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/OSS … cial_Setup for setup.
· 3D surround enhancement is much better now. No more noise for opera music! (unless you use headphones wink)
· reverb option in mixer is gone (???)
· osscore reports mmap on virtual devices is unsupported, but ossinfo says yes :?:. It affects enemy territory and maybe quake 3/4 too
Cheers!

duplex is not supported on virtual mixer, though there are virtual input devices. I'm not sure if skype can open one device for output and another for input.

If you really need duplex, try alsa + oss2jack instead. It also works with ET but not some other games/apps. (oss v3 works perfectly with et, dunno why v4 is broken...)

PS: I'm still trying to find out why et no longer works....

Re: OSS/Commercial driver v4 beta!

I tried alsa + oss2jack but it wouldn't build correctly for me :S

Edit: runing skype and then try to start a call gives me this:

volume_open: error opening: No such file or directory
volume_open: error opening: No such file or directory
read error, res = -1 , handle = 27

The last row is repeted until the call is stopped.

Re: OSS/Commercial driver v4 beta!

well I just found Skype 1.3 can use different audio in and out devices. So oss/commercial may still work for you.

You can run "ossinfo -v1" to get the list of virtual sound input devices. It should be the last four by default (dsp10 - dsp13)

Re: OSS/Commercial driver v4 beta!

Yeah, i know it can, it's when using dsp13-15 or 15 for all it gives me that. It wont even work with /dev/dsp so something's wrong...

Re: OSS/Commercial driver v4 beta!

Woah! Using this crashes alsa! Now i can't switch back to alsa either! Help please!

It says something about alsalib 9 and relocation or something like that at boot up :S

EDIT: Okay solved it! Just needed to reinstall alsa-lib, alsa-oss and alsa-utils and reboot.

Re: OSS/Commercial driver v4 beta!

I haven't been able to get Skype 1.3 to make a call on my Arch machine :-(

I have resorted to using skype_dsp_hijacker, so I can use th espeakers for one soundcard, and the mic connected to another.

You mean enemy territory?? It worked well with oss v3. See the wiki if you want v3 and setup et (I updated it).

I never have my microphones working with the via8237 chip, even though skype could run well without any error (with oss2jack or oss/commercial). The mic port is always being used as a 2nd sound output (3 speaker ports here for 5+1 sound)

Maybe you should change a jumper on your mainboard? You can read about it in the mobo manual.
Or was it just in oss that the mic had never worked?

it's tested with alsa, not oss smile

BTW I was wrong about the oss input. It needs imux (input multiplex...) instead of softoss lookback device

Re: OSS/Commercial driver v4 beta!

skype works for me (using alsa right now) with aoss skype, but the microphone is giving alot of buzzing noise according to my friend.. trying to find a fix for that..

was trying out oss v4 , this doesnt exist for me: /etc/rc.d/oss-linux
.. installed using the pkgbuild.. have restarted even.

--edit
it existed but without the exec rights.. fixed that
