one library in different versions in AUR

Hi there!

my first post here.
So there is libfprint, a library for fingerprint readers. In extra, there is version 1.90.3-1 as libfprint (https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extr … libfprint/). In AUR there is version 1.0-1 as libfprint-1 (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/libfprint-1/). There are other versions and I'm not quite sure if it's based on the same upstream code (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/?O=0 … _Search=Go).
fprint_demo (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/fprint_demo/) is an old, cool but eol software. It depends on libfprint. There is no version specified. For me (and my reader) fprint_demo works only with libfprint version 0.7 which is currently on in AUR. I asked the maintainer and he told me that it's broken for him too and I can take ownership of the package. Now the question is:

The AUR submission guidelines (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AU … guidelines) state:
Check the AUR if the package already exists. If it is currently maintained, changes can be submitted in a comment for the maintainer's attention. If it is unmaintained or the maintainer is unresponsive, the package can be adopted and updated as required. Do not create duplicate packages.

To get it working (for me at least) I need to add libfprint 0.7 to AUR (as libfprint-0). But this disagrees with the AUR submission guidelines as the package itself is already there. How do we handle multiple versions of a library in AUR? I couldn't find something in our wiki.

Thank you

Re: one library in different versions in AUR

The maintainer orphans the package and you adopt it.

Re: one library in different versions in AUR

What ist "the package" here?

If the OP needs libfprint in version 0.7, libfprint-1 would not be the correct name for it. Uploading libfprit 0.7 as libfprint-0 would be as okay as uploading libfprint 1.0 as libfprint-1.

fprint_demo is already orphaned, so anyone can adopt it and upload something that depends on it.

Do you like to check my PKBUILDs before I submit them?
