[solved] luks root asks for password twice

I have installed Arch on a LUKS encrypted root (separate boot partition).

I am asked for the passphrase twice. Once before grub and once again when the iniitramfs executes the encrypt hook (before it executes the btrfs hook).

I have

cryptdevice=UUID=###:cryproot

in my grub config. Is it not needed to have this expressed when the
initramfs is doing the unlocking too? I have gone over the wiki but I am just not clear on why I am prompted twice for the passphrase.

edit: I solved this by adding a keyfile to my i\nitramfs as detailed in the wiki (which I did not apparently read closely enough the first time).

Re: [solved] luks root asks for password twice

Could you please give more detail about what you did and/or link to the respective wiki entries for future reference?
Thanks!

Re: [solved] luks root asks for password twice

I created a keyfile slot in the luks device, then embedded that keyfile into the initramfs as instructed here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dm … rase_twice
