Since very recently KDE Plasma on X11 has become unusable, as the panels/systray/menus start tearing, icons and text disappearing and flickering when moving the mouse or using the menus when 3D is enabled.
This was working fine until a couple of weeks ago, so not sure if it is related to 5.19/5.20, mesa or kernel or something else.
I did notice that it also happens with a Fedora 33 KDE livecd.
But, on the other hand, the KDE Neon Testing with X11 and 3D enabled on 5.20.3 is working just fine (both from livecd and installed.
So far tested on VMware Fusion 11 and 12

I am having the exactly same issue since I upgraded to Plasma 5.20.2 though I'm using Manjaro on vmware workstation. I think it is definitely related to the compatibility of kwin_x11 5.20 with xf86-video-vmware.
Except for the panels/taskbar/tray menus, application windows are all fine without any flickering or tearing.
I thought about downgrading the Plasma to the previous version, but didn't because this is my work environment I cannot afford to break it now accidently.
I may try to find another VM to try it out later.

Same here, I've had graphical issues with VMware Workstation Player 16, running up-to-date ArchLinux & Plasma.
I came up with two 'fixes':
- disable 3D acceleration for this VM -> no more glitches
- downgrade mesa to version 20.1.8 : no more glitches too.
Each time I install mesa updates, glitches occur, and I have to revert back to 20.1.8 : not sure who's the culprit, though.

This issue has been identified, and is fixed : I guess next Mesa will embed the patch (20.3 is fixed for sure) :
