Hi all,
I'm not sure if this should be posted under 'Newbie Corner,' 'Kernel and Hardware,' or 'Laptop Issues'. So, if it needs to be moved, please let me know. Although, I will say this issue feels rather newbie-esque.
So, I've been running Arch for awhile on my laptop (ThinkPad P53) and my new job bought me some hardware to work from home. (I'm sure you can see where this is going.) I have been able to connect my mouse and keyboard, however, I cannot get my external monitor to detect the output from my HDMI cord.
I've done some digging around on the following pages: the xrandr wiki, the multihead wiki, the extreme multihead wiki, the NVIDIA wiki, and this stack exchange post that had seemed relevant, among others.
My issue is that I cannot get the monitor to detect the output of the HDMI cord. Every single time I run $ xrandr --output HDMI-1 --auto (found on the xrandr wiki), my session restarts and there is no output from my HDMI, still.
At first, I thought my HDMI cord wasn't being detected but the output from xrandr below shows this is not the case. So, I wonder if, for some reason, there isn't any output being sent -- but I'm not sure, hence why I'm here.
One thing I feel I should note is that I am running i3. I don't know why but I feel it is necessary to note that.
Overall, I've put a good chunk of time into this (~8/9 hours) and can't seem to figure it out and/or get a good lead on what to tinker with, so I've come here. I don't know if I'm simply missing a wiki or a link, but please feel free to direct me to it/one if I am; I'd actually love that! Any help would be deeply appreciated.

It turns out that the second addition I had listed to the "nvidia-settings" file that is automatically generated had somehow messed it up. However, solely loading the default auto-generated file got the monitor to present my monitor. Now I'm working on getting it to be a "TwinView" configuration (which, if I get too stuck, will require another thread). But, basically, the solution was to not be an idiot and just do what you're supposed to try, first.
