I've been using lollypop music player for a while, on Arch + bspwm
Only problem is that,
It is not sending out notifications ( on Song Change specifically ), other notifications work, ie album add/update .
And somehow it is bspwm specific.
Using Pure Gnome/Xfce/i3 only : notifications work ( shows up in dbus-monitor and on screen)
Using Xfce with bspwm / bspwm only : notifications don't work ( no event of notifications in dbus-monitor on song change and screen )

Does lollypop always show a notification or only if it is unfocused? Maybe bspwm does not properly remove the focus.

As per the gitlab page, lollypop doesn't show notifications when it is focused, so it could be the problem. But how to deal with it ?
Edit : I tried unmanaging the lollypop window and shifted the focus to the other, but still same behaviour

this was the problem indeed, lollypop perform a check whether the window is focused or not, somehow, in bspwm it always seem to return yes to the query
