after update gnome would not start

after and update, when gnome is started (fired from kdm) the splashscreen is stuck on metacity stage.
If i put in my .xinitrc:

exec gnome-session --failsafe

session starts ok. How do i debug non-failsafe start?

Re: after update gnome would not start

I had the same problem here using testing with the latest update.
I couldn't even start the failsafe session.
Downgraded back to [current], I couldn't find the problem....

Re: after update gnome would not start

After I downgraded back to current, gdm gave a permission error that he couldn't read my home dir. (the gdm from testing didn't gave that problem)
So I noticed that my home dir was owned by root!!, not by myself anymore.  I don't know if this also was the problem for gnome from testing, but I had to chmod and chown my homedir again sad
