[Solved] Can I use optimus-manager with startx ?

Hi all,

I have an optimus laptop (intel+nvidia) that I run for the most part with nvidia since I am plugged most of the time. When needed I switch to intel using optimus-manager. So far no problems with the current setup: lightdm.service+optimus-manager.service+WM or DE all works fine.

However, I decided to stop using lightdm and just log from the tty + startx (.xinitrc). When I do this I get kicked out of X unless I also remove the optimus-manager.service. Problem is, if I do this the system reverts by default to intel gpu and I cannot use my multimonitor setup anymore. Is there a way that I can run X with startx while still keeping the optimus-manager.service ?

Let me know if you need any conf files or Xorg logs.

Thanks !

Edit: a simple search on the forum led me to:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=248998

And by simply adding these two lines in my .xinitrc I get it to work.

xrandr --setprovideroutputsource modesetting NVIDIA-0
xrandr --auto
