[SOLVED] KDE no video on boot when dual monitors connected

Hi all!

First post here, so please go easy on me ?.

Recently I upgraded my setup by adding two monitors plus a KVM switch (so I can switch from my work computer, non-arch sadly, and my personal desktop with arch!).

I am having problems when booting arch on my personal computer though: if both monitors are connected to the kvm switch the video freezes after the initial loading arch linux screen (the screen right before the login screen of KDE). However booting with one monitor disconnected from the KVM Switch and restarting my machine does the trick and I am able to get arch booted with video, interestingly enough once I am logged in I can re-connect the second monitor and it will work without any issue.

More simply: if both screens are connected during boot, it fails to give video. If only one screen is connected during boot, it succeeds, if then I attach the second screen AFTER it has booted without problems, it works flawlessly.

Here is the output of xrandr -q

Additional issue: There is no audio... but I'd like to solve the video problem first

Re: [SOLVED] KDE no video on boot when dual monitors connected

Hi - welcome to Arch. These boards use BBCode, please use [ code ] tags (w/o spaces) for output, not ```. Please edit your original post and put those in, it makes it much easier to read and therefore to help.

As for your specific problem, it sounds like your Display Manager (likely SDDM) is having problems detecting that 2nd monitor.  Collect and post the Journal log, dmesg and Xorg logs after you've plugged in two monitors and had a problem.

Re: [SOLVED] KDE no video on boot when dual monitors connected

I restarted my machine and noticed that the issue is now fixed... my guess is that when running xrandr some configuration got updated somewhere and that fixed the issue (given that running that command is literally the only thing that I did).

I also figured out on my own how to fix my audio smile (The wrong device was set as default)

Thanks for your help anyway!
