these errors started showing up at boot. eventually the system boots. I did some checking, and my logs show this error from at least back in sept. however, i was not seeing the messages at boot.

entropy ata2: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
entropy ata2: error=0x40 { UncorrectableError }

any advice?
thnx.

Re: Is my hard-drive going bad?

Get a new drive soon.  Hard drives are too flaky to trust once they start throwing errors like that.  A few bucks for a new one is a wise investment.

If not, make SURE you're making frequent backups so when this one finally does die you're not too hosed.

Re: Is my hard-drive going bad?

do these repeat, or are they only on boot?

backup.

they dont look all too flash, I'd install smarttools, and use smartctl to see if there's any errors reported via smart, or run a self test.

Re: Is my hard-drive going bad?

Hi,

the messages repeat for several times. looks like the same blocks over and over again. i only see them on boot. which just started this weds. looking back at my logs i can see the same errors... which is odd to me because i swear this is the first time i've noticed the messages during boot.

everything is backed up : )

think i'll try the smarttools and see what it says.

thanks

Re: Is my hard-drive going bad?

Before buying a new drive, buy a (decent) new drive cable.  A fraction of the price, and it solves 9/10 of my hard drive woes.
