[SOLVED] Pacman says there is nothing to do

I ran pacman -Syu a week ago, after not running for 2-3 weeks. It says core, extra, community is up to date when synchronizing, but then when starting full system upgrade it says 'there is nothing to do'.

I've ran it daily since then, and I get the same results each time - 'there is nothing to do'.

This seems wrong to me, since normally if I run this I will get updates almost daily.

Any thoughts on what to do? It's beginning to look like restoring the local db is the best option, although I hate to do that if not needed.

The thing you should do first is make sure you are using proper mirrors: https://www.archlinux.org/mirrors/status/#successful select a few close to your location with a low delay time and a low score and put them at the top of the mirror list.
