no, it doesn't work any better using beta drivers from nvidia.

Could you write down the solution?? I'm fighting with this problem over a couple of months. Funny thing is that, when I installed ubuntu and enabled nvidia drivers everything was working fine. This problem I'm having both on archlinux and gentoo.

then copy the exact xorg.conf from ubuntu to your arch install. It should work... I haven't heard of too many problems with nvidia cards and the new drivers fro a long time. I think your problem is pretty simple. This thread is over a year old and most of the issues with the drivers have been worked out.

What version are you running? 96, 100, or 169 drivers? Also, how did you install the drivers. I would recommend using arch's package if u haven't done that. What video card do you have?

to was a hardware issue for me. i had to flash my video card with another brand's bios, and voilà !!
