[SOLVED] amdgpu: high power usage when using 75Hz refresh rate

Edit: fixed with kernel 5.10.9

Hi

I have an RX5700 AMD GPU and use it with a 75 Hz Display (1080). My DE is KDE (xorg).

Since linux 5.10 I have higher power usage in idle when using 75Hz mode.

with 75Hz:

amdgpu-pci-0900
Adapter: PCI adapter
vddgfx: 775.00 mV
fan1: 1282 RPM (min = 0 RPM, max = 3200 RPM)
edge: +59.0°C (crit = +100.0°C, hyst = -273.1°C)
                       (emerg = +105.0°C)
junction: +60.0°C (crit = +110.0°C, hyst = -273.1°C)
                       (emerg = +115.0°C)
mem: +58.0°C (crit = +105.0°C, hyst = -273.1°C)
                       (emerg = +110.0°C)
power1: 40.00 W (cap = 165.00 W)

with 60Hz:

amdgpu-pci-0900
Adapter: PCI adapter
vddgfx: 775.00 mV
fan1: 0 RPM (min = 0 RPM, max = 3200 RPM)
edge: +55.0°C (crit = +100.0°C, hyst = -273.1°C)
                       (emerg = +105.0°C)
junction: +55.0°C (crit = +110.0°C, hyst = -273.1°C)
                       (emerg = +115.0°C)
mem: +54.0°C (crit = +105.0°C, hyst = -273.1°C)
                       (emerg = +110.0°C)
power1: 16.00 W (cap = 165.00 W)

To avoid flickering on startup I boot the kernel with video=1920x1080@75 and I created an xorg monitor configuration with a 1080p75 mode.

For testing purposes I removed the xorg configuration, but the problem persists.

I noticed it, because my custom fan script which sets low rpm in idle was not working anymore.

Can anyone with a higher refresh rate monitor (vrr) confirm this?

I will try to rollback to 5.9. to see if it is kernel dependent.

Edit: with kernel 5.9.14 the problem disapears
