[solved] stall during boot uresume hook in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf

There was an issue causing boot to stall about 5min after 'running hook [uresume]' sometimes entirely black.

The cause was a 'uresume' entry in the HOOKS line in /etc/mkinitcpio that wasn't removed during install (though there was a mkiniticpio.pacnew, placed, which I had missed). After removal and running as root 'mkinitcpio -p linux' the boot was fast again.
