[SOLVED]Native games won't use GPU but games running in Wine/Proton do

I can't get native linux games to run using my nvidia 970 GPU it instead just uses the CPU, but I not had this problem when running games in proton, every game I've tried that runs in proton/wine has run with the GPU working. I have tried installing different nvidia drivers including the beta drivers but nothing works.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970

Kernel: 5.10.10-arch1-1
Kernel driver in use: nvidia

This shows up in dmesg:

NVRM: API mismatch: the client has the version 460.39, but
NVRM: this kernel module has the version 460.32.03. Please
NVRM: make sure that this kernel module and all NVIDIA driver
NVRM: components have the same version.

My system is all up to date

Since the original error was abotu the nvidia kernel module and X11 driver bein out of sync, removing the xorg.conf (while generally a good idea - certainly if it was autogenerated) can not have fixed *that* problem, but you likely also rebooted (loading the new kernel w/ the new nvdia module matching the installed X11 driver)
