Endlessly writing this within milliseconds to my SSD. Unsurprisingly, of course the system then freezes every second or more (mouse and keyboard input in particular freeze).
Searching for this issue brings up only irrelevant issues. The screens do not flicker or change, the graphic output works fine.

I've discovered that going into the gnome display settings can cause the problem to appear or disappear, seemingly at random, and sometimes it never disappears. Locking the screen can also do this. Same with xrandr.

It's happening again so I will edit with followup information after restarting (which sometimes fixes it) before this drives me insane.

Re: [SOLVED] Nvidia with Two Screens, freeze and slow

[name@name ~]$ lspci -k | grep -A 3 -E "(VGA|3D)"
08:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation TU104 [GeForce RTX 2060] (rev a1)
Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd Device 3fc1
	Kernel driver in use: nvidia
	Kernel modules: nouveau, nvidia_drm, nvidia

Nvidia Driver Version

[name@name ~]$ pacman -Qi nvidia
Name : nvidia
Version : 460.39-1
Description : NVIDIA drivers for linux
Architecture : x86_64

My two display devices:

Ancor Communications Inc ASUS VS247 (HDMI-0),
Ancor Communications Inc VE248 (DP-2)

Blacklisting nouveau:

$ cat /usr/lib/modprobe.d/nvidia.conf
blacklist nouveau

Would someone help me with finding the cause of this problem?

I also found this:

Maybe the warning at the end is relevant?

Re: [SOLVED] Nvidia with Two Screens, freeze and slow

Running the below code also triggered the problem for me again.

[name@name]$ xrandr -q | grep "conn"
DP-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-2 connected 1920x1080+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 531mm x 299mm
DP-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI-0 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 521mm x 293mm
DP-4 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-5 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

I haven't even changed any settings, just asked for the current configuration.

Check/try another cable.

Re: [SOLVED] Nvidia with Two Screens, freeze and slow

Thanks!

Unfortunately I don't have another cable but the setup works flawlessly on windows and sometimes on arch, until the moment when I lock the screen, or run xrandr or open the display settings. Or sometimes it doesn't work initially and I do one of the mentioned and it works.
There is a HDMI-display port adapter for my second screen, maybe this is relevant?
I don't see how the cable could be a problem, but I will find another cable tomorrow.

Also I don't have any `nvidia-drm.modeset` options in my grub.

Re: [SOLVED] Nvidia with Two Screens, freeze and slow

Well I plugged my secondary screen into another port on the graphics card and I haven't been able to reproduce the problem since.
I have no idea why, but thank you in any case!
