glxserver_nvidia couldnt open

Hello,
I read all the topics in this forum and in reddit about this subject and after days trying I cant solve the issue by myself, I would appreciate some help from advanced users here.

The problem is: Failed to load module "glxserver_nvidia" (module does not exist, 0)

I tried with nvidia drivers, nvidia dkms, nvidia beta and always same result.

Re: glxserver_nvidia couldnt open

The ModulePath isn't extended, likely reason is the /etc/X11/xorg.conf which looks like nvidia-settings generated.
=> remove that

You may have to put the nvidia modules into the initramfs if the server starts before the HW is fully initiated,
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ke … _KMS_start
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … de_setting (the required modules)

Re: glxserver_nvidia couldnt open

Hi,

Modules are there and the battery one is loading correctly then should be ok.

# vim:set ft=sh
# MODULES
# The following modules are loaded before any boot hooks are
# run. Advanced users may wish to specify all system modules
# in this array. For instance:
#     MODULES=(piix ide_disk reiserfs)
MODULES=(nvidia nvidia_modeset nvidia_uvm nvidia_drm battery)

# BINARIES
# This setting includes any additional binaries a given user may
# wish into the CPIO image. This is run last, so it may be used to
# override the actual binaries included by a given hook
# BINARIES are dependency parsed, so you may safely ignore libraries
BINARIES=()

# FILES
# This setting is similar to BINARIES above, however, files are added
# as-is and are not parsed in any way. This is useful for config files.
FILES=()

# HOOKS
# This is the most important setting in this file. The HOOKS control the
# modules and scripts added to the image, and what happens at boot time.
# Order is important, and it is recommended that you do not change the
# order in which HOOKS are added. Run 'mkinitcpio -H <hook name>' for
# help on a given hook.
# 'base' is _required_ unless you know precisely what you are doing.
# 'udev' is _required_ in order to automatically load modules
# 'filesystems' is _required_ unless you specify your fs modules in MODULES
# Examples:
## This setup specifies all modules in the MODULES setting above.
## No raid, lvm2, or encrypted root is needed.
#    HOOKS=(base)
#
## This setup will autodetect all modules for your system and should
## work as a sane default
# HOOKS=(base udev autodetect block filesystems)
#
## This setup will generate a 'full' image which supports most systems.
##   No autodetection is done.
#    HOOKS=(base udev block filesystems)
#
## This setup assembles a pata mdadm array with an encrypted root FS.
## Note: See 'mkinitcpio -H mdadm' for more information on raid devices.
# HOOKS=(base udev block mdadm encrypt filesystems)
#
## This setup loads an lvm2 volume group on a usb device.
#    HOOKS=(base udev block lvm2 filesystems)
#
## NOTE: If you have /usr on a separate partition, you MUST include the
# usr, fsck and shutdown hooks.
HOOKS=(base udev autodetect modconf block keymap keyboard encrypt lvm2 filesystems resume fsck)

# COMPRESSION
# Use this to compress the initramfs image. By default, gzip compression
# is used. Use 'cat' to create an uncompressed image.
#COMPRESSION="gzip"
#COMPRESSION="bzip2"
#COMPRESSION="lzma"
#COMPRESSION="xz"
#COMPRESSION="lzop"
#COMPRESSION="lz4"

I dont have any /etc/X11/xorg.conf

My Xorg config files are:

ls -l /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d:
total 4.0K
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 335 Sep  3 20:06 99-synaptics.conf

/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d:
total 12K
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  227 Jan 26 17:01 10-nvidia-drm-outputclass.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1.4K Dec 14 13:10 10-quirks.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1.4K May 19  2020 40-libinput.conf

File: /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia-drm-outputclass.conf
Section "OutputClass"
    Identifier "nvidia"
    MatchDriver "nvidia-drm"
    Driver "nvidia"
    Option "AllowEmptyInitialConfiguration"
    ModulePath "/usr/lib/nvidia/xorg"
    ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
EndSection

I tried deleting 10-nvidia-drm-outputclass.conf but no difference

Re: glxserver_nvidia couldnt open

I dont have any /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Your xorg log disagrees.

[    16.308] (==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"

But it's probably because you posted a dead old one (and I overlooked that)

[    16.306] (==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Fri Jan  1 09:22:57 2021

I tried deleting 10-nvidia-drm-outputclass.conf but no difference

That was stupid. Restore the file.

Modules are there and the battery one is loading correctly then should be ok.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RyYrs5tu60
Let's see whether they actually are:

lsinitcpio /boot/initramfs-linux.img| grep nvidia

Also please post an up-to-date xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg#General
