Pulseaudio microphone records audio output

If I do a mic test, I hear what I am currently playing (some audio, or a video meeting), but when I don't play any audio at the same time on my pc, I just hear a lot of noise. I don't know what the cause of this issue can be, because:

1. I looked in the "Troubleshooting Pulseaudio" page on the wiki
2. I tried this microphone (new microphone) on another device, which works
3. I looked for anything I changed in my Pulseaudio config, I even deleted .config/pulse/, so Pulseaudio automatically resets the config. AFAIK I didn't change anything in /etc/pulse/default.pa and related.

Re: Pulseaudio microphone records audio output

Why are you loading loopback ALSA mixers and are they active when recording?

sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*

If they are I'd expect the behaviour you are seeing, also more generally you will want to tone down on the mic boost

amixer -c0 set 'Front Mic Boost',0 0,0
#And maybe unmute the front mic control explicitly, though it's never quite a given what exactly is intended to be used on cards like these with seemlingly duplicate controls
amixer -c0 set 'Front Mic',0 100%,100% unmute

Re: Pulseaudio microphone records audio output

Did you mean that I explicitly told Pulseaudio to load loopback drivers? Or am I misunderstanding you here? Anyways, I copied the output of sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*:

                     USER PID ACCESS COMMAND
/dev/snd/controlC0: tomvd 1034 F.... volumeicon
                     tomvd 24045 F.... pulseaudio
/dev/snd/controlC1: tomvd 24045 F.... pulseaudio
/dev/snd/pcmC2D0p: tomvd 2705 F...m droidcam

Droidcam is a tool to use your phone as a camera. I've used that today, so that explains the droidcam there.

Re: Pulseaudio microphone records audio output

Those are alsa snd_aloop devices that's a level below pulseaudio. And afaik droidcam does load them and I could see there being an interference here, can you still reproduce this without droidcam/the snd_aloop modules unloaded

sudo modprobe -r snd-aloop

Re: Pulseaudio microphone records audio output

Uhh, I think I am unable to reproduce the problem anymore. I guess the microphone boost setting made the difference here. Also, I did a mic test on a third party website. There is probably something wrong with that test. Well, I guess this is now solved. Sorry for bothering you with this, because I just should've looked at my alsamixer settings.
