Chromium YouTube video playback speed bug

I noticed something odd about playing YouTube videos at 1.5x speed or above and at HD quality as of Chromium version 88.
After a few seconds of video play, the video graphics would speed up tremendously out of sync with the audio before the entire video starts buffering.
I can not reproduce this bug on video qualities lower than 720p, at playback speeds lower than 1.5, on versions of Chromium before 88, and on mpv.

Other system specs that are likely important:
- I have nvidia 460.39 drivers
- I run chromium with the "--use-gl=desktop" flag. If I don't run the browser with this flag, the YouTube problems don't occur, but then I encounter periodic kernel crashes that are even more annoying.

I was wondering whether anyone else was experiencing this issue and whether they have any potential fixes.

Edit:
I realized that this does not occur for all videos. For example, this Kurzgesagt video consistently experiences this issue while this one does not.
