Hello Arch Forums,
I have recently started using Arch GNU/Linux at my University, and have noticed that I have never been asked to sign in to the wireless internet when I am using Linux. I dual boot with Windows to use Autodesk Software and I am always required to sign in through a browser before I am allowed to connect to the internet. It is nice not having to sign in to the internet over and over again, but is there a reason why Linux doesn't require me to enter credentials before accessing the University's internet while Windows does? Or more importantly, are there any significant consequences that will come with this happening? I am able to observe this on two computers that I have Linux installed on.
Hardware:
a) Asus Q503UA
b) Thinkpad X200T
Network Programs:
a) networkmanager on the Asus
b) iwctl on the Thinkpad

Some networks that do authentication like that log your mac address. So if you logged using your windows side then switched to linux it wouldn't need to re-authenticate.
One potential thing that could happen is that they could blacklist your mac address if Linux is actually somehow bypassing their authentication procedure. You'll need to talk to the IT department at your school, or go with the if it ain't broke don't fix it approach.
