Managing large amounts of data on desktops

Dear community members,

At first, I wasn't sure whether this post should be posted under Programming & Scripting, but since I assume that no scripts are likely to be posted here, I'm referring to sub-forum Applications & Desktop Environments.

So this is my story:
I the recent 5 years, I've been extensively done tasks and scripts for data analyses and scrapping, and in the recent couple of years, I've been doing data scrapping on my own desktop, also in realizing data into ATOM feeds and reading theme via RSS readers.
I think that RSS readers are not the optimal tool for the management of data collections on a large scale (i.e. over 10,000 feeds).

Post YOUR set of Applications or Mockups, as to how to manage, sort, maintain and creatively display and notify on new data on desktops

(1) Scripts
(2) Databases
(3) Notifications
(4) Displays

Please try to treat News Data and Mining Data differently when you post.
