Re: Is current kernel a debug one ?

Was hoping the full dmesg would indicate which module used trace_printk.  Nothing obvious stands out to me.  See if it is recorded in:

# cat /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/trace

To answer your original question the kernel uses CONFIG_DYNAMIC_FTRACE  to prevent the performance impact of ftrace.  However it appears something called trace_printk which triggers the message you see.

Re: Is current kernel a debug one ?

I did a light search in the net regarding trace_printk(). According to this Ubuntu post, this might have to do with a module than the kernel itself.

Re: Is current kernel a debug one ?

Since the warning appears right after the activation of brcmfmac, could be this the issuer ?

Re: Is current kernel a debug one ?

I do not see any use of trace_printk in brcmfmac.  Check the output of

cat /proc/modules

for any marked (O) or O plus other letters in round brackets indicating the module is out of tree.

Re: Is current kernel a debug one ?

I don't see any.
The only letters in round brackets are the following :

atomisp 987136 0 - Live 0x0000000000000000 (C)
atomisp_gmin_platform 36864 1 atomisp, Live 0x0000000000000000 (C)

Re: Is current kernel a debug one ?

In the long dmesg post, look at the comment on atomisp, just before the warnings, it is indicated from the staging directory, of unknown quality. Can it be the culprit ?

Re: Is current kernel a debug one ?

If you temporarily blacklist atomisp and atomisp_gmin_platform is the message still produced?

Re: Is current kernel a debug one ?

It appears the atomisp is a driver for the camera on several generations of intel Atom systems.
https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page= … ia-Updates has some info

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Re: Is current kernel a debug one ?

@loqs
The value of
/sys/module/atomisp/parameters/dbg_func
is 2

@Lone_wolf
Thanks for the info.
Can I suppose that sooner or later he will release a final, non-debug version ?

Re: Is current kernel a debug one ?

2 is normal printk so does not explain what is triggering the message.  You could try using Kernel_module#Setting_module_options to set the option to 0.
If that has no effect you may have to file a bug to get the issue resolved.

Re: Is current kernel a debug one ?

I'd like to file a bug since setting the parameter to 0 has no effect,
but in the bug tracker system it's not clear how to send it upstream

perl scripts/get_maintainer.pl drivers/staging/media/atomisp/
Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@kernel.org> (maintainer:STAGING - ATOMISP DRIVER)
Sakari Ailus <sakari.ailus@linux.intel.com> (reviewer:STAGING - ATOMISP DRIVER)
Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org> (supporter:STAGING SUBSYSTEM)
linux-media@vger.kernel.org (open list:STAGING - ATOMISP DRIVER)
devel@driverdev.osuosl.org (open list:STAGING SUBSYSTEM)
linux-kernel@vger.kernel.org (open list)

If it is upstream you could try the linux-media mailing list from above linux-media@vger.kernel.org or https://bugzilla.kernel.org/ product driver component staging.
