The staircase effect - agetty

From https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Getty:

agetty [...] modifies the TTY settings while waiting for a login so that the newlines are not translated to CR-LFs. This tends to cause a "staircase effect" for messages printed to the console.

What could be done so that messages appear without the staircase effect?

Re: The staircase effect - agetty

I have never witnessed this first hand. Can you describe what happens when it happens?

Sure, this appears briefly during the shutdown sequence: https://ibb.co/G9X84yB

Re: The staircase effect - agetty

Is the question regarding agetty or during "regular" use of an interactive shell?
For the latter, run "stty onlcr".

Otherwise

You'll basically have to alter the terminal w/ some service - whether that's a good idea is a whole different matter.
If this is just for cosmetic reasons, rather leave it alone. I don't know why but am pretty convinced that agetty doesn't set the terminal to raw mode for no actual reason.
