A stop job running for user manager uid 1000 while using WM and not DE

I started having this problem yesterday, every time I reboot I get 'A stop job running for user manager uid 1000' delay while using i3 window manager and not DE as i found lots of solutions if I was using DE. I also found some kind of solution for me by reducing the time for the delay in the user.service unit, but is that even ok ?? Is there any other solutions ?? I also discovered that I get this delay even if I end the x session and reboot from the (tty1) of my user, but when  I login to the root user which doesnt have any session on it just the (tty1) and reboot from there I dont get this delay. Any ideas ??
Here is the journal from the last reboot:

Sorry for the long post I'm just trying to give you as much info as I can so maybe someone could help me or at least tell me if it is ok to just reduce the time of the delay.
Thanks for any kind of help.

Re: A stop job running for user manager uid 1000 while using WM and not DE

I think the problem is somewhere here, because of the time differences so I think that means the process that caused the delay is here somewhere:

Plus, I tried to login to the root user and startx manually which only executes i3 wm and the i3 executes nothing that I manually customaized on startup and when I rebooted there was a stop job for user uid 0 (for my root user).

Re: A stop job running for user manager uid 1000 while using WM and not DE

By which means are you starting your i3? Via startx? Did you ensure to follow https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xinit#xinitrc so that your session is setup properly? What's your output of

printenv | grep DBUS

in your i3 session?

By which means are you starting your i3? Via startx? Did you ensure to follow https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xinit#xinitrc so that your session is setup properly? What's your output of

printenv | grep DBUS

in your i3 session?

Thats the output:

DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS=unix:path=/run/user/1000/bus

And im starting the xsession automatically when i log in this way https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xi … X_at_login and i put it in the ~/.bash_profile

Re: A stop job running for user manager uid 1000 while using WM and not DE

I commented the auto start of x session on login in the ~/.bash_profile and I started it manually using startx and the delay was still there kn the reboot. Is that an issue of xorg??
When I stay on the tty1 there is no delay on reboot!

Re: A stop job running for user manager uid 1000 while using WM and not DE

And what does your .xinitrc look like? It should at least follow the template mentioned in

Wiki wrote:

Note: At the very least, ensure that the last if block in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc is present in your ~/.xinitrc file to ensure that the scripts in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d are sourced.

so that the user session is properly tied to the graphical session.

You could also just swing the hammer and mask at-spi-dbus-bus.service if you do not need the accessibility features of GTK applications

What in the world is ./.autostart.sh? Having something like that that depends on what dir you're in when you run startx is a very bad idea.

Not that it matters, as everything after the first exec doesn't do anything anyway. How is i3 even getting started?

Scimmia ./.autostart.sh is just an file that contains few scripts that I made and I execute on startup of x session and it is located on my home dir. Here is the file:

#!/bin/sh

python Projects/python/files/home_backup.py
python Projects/python/files/track_files_ownership.py

By the way I already tried to comment every execution that i added on the .xinitrc except the i3 one but that didn't help.
Lastly I startx automatically on login using the help of the ~/.bash_profile file.

Re: A stop job running for user manager uid 1000 while using WM and not DE

You missed both points I raised in my post. That .xinitrc will not even start i3, so how's it getting started.

The second is that running a script with a relative path from .xinitrc is a TERRIBLE idea.

Scimmia The truth idk and i didnt know that it will cause any problems and im using arch for something like 3 months and everything was working fine till yesterday the stop job started delaying my rebooting or poweroff.
Thanks for the note by the way. Ill move the file executions to the i3 config.

Re: A stop job running for user manager uid 1000 while using WM and not DE

Let's start by figuring what is actually starting i3.
The way it's presented, it's certainly not anything running that xinitrc.

What are the contents of the autostart.sh file?
Also post the output of "loginctl session-status".

V1del I just tried to mask at-spi-dbus-bus.service and rebooted, it didnt help becuase it told me that this servic doesnt exists anywy.

Unit at-spi-dbus-bus.service does not exist, proceeding anyway.
Created symlink /etc/systemd/system/at-spi-dbus-bus.service → /dev/null

Re: A stop job running for user manager uid 1000 while using WM and not DE

The xinitrc you posted does not produce this session.
Please post the actual /home/yan/.xinitrc

Next, /home/yan/.config/i3/scripts/updates-arch.sh  seems to sleep for 900 seconds (15 minutes) and there's another instance of that script.
So please also post your ~/.config/i3/config and you can immediately test to not run the script.

Neither of the python scripts in your autostart.sh is (still) running.

Is that a paste error or do you really have exactly that output from loginctl? That's a real problem if that's what you get.

I just posted it seth

Re: A stop job running for user manager uid 1000 while using WM and not DE

The 2 scripts in the autostart.sh are just scripts that do few things on startup and after that they end.
The updates-arch.sh one I think i got from github for showing if there any updates for pacman packages and the aur ones.
It is executed on the polybar, so here is the polybar config if it helps:

Re: A stop job running for user manager uid 1000 while using WM and not DE

First of all, replace "exec picom -G &" with just "picom -G &"
Second, remove/comment the updates-arch.sh invocation in the polybar config and see whether the stop job remains.
Third, while your session-status certainly looks like a botched copy and paste from the pager, please address Scimmias question in this regard
Fourth: do not bump. Just edit your previous post if nobody has replied so far.
Fifth, it's somewhat common to address people like "@arch181" but that's rarely required anyway unless you really need to make clear that you're addressing someone specifically.
