[SOLVED] Xmobar not running

I am using default .xmobarrc in ~ directory

Running xmobar & spits out

[dezire@Dezire-PC ~]$ xmobar: /home/dezire/.xmobarrc: hGetContents: invalid argument (invalid byte sequence)

EDIT:
the default config on the arch wiki is bugged...
