I'm on the latest LTS kernel.
When I try to update to the latest npm version, I get this pacman error.
Is there something I did wrong? All other packages update fine.

Have you been running npm as root? If not, this could be caused by filesystem corruption resulting in pacman's dB getting damaged.
For the latter, check the state of your hardware and filesystems before proceeding.
