worse performance with nvidia gpu than on ubuntu

switched from ubuntu and performance halved
fps drops are especially noticeable when rendering driver-heavy things like portals in portal 2
turns out the latest novidia drivers did not support my gpu
tried installing legacy 390xx drivers, fps is the same although they're suitable for my card

Re: worse performance with nvidia gpu than on ubuntu

local/libxnvctrl 460.56-1
    NVIDIA NV-CONTROL X extension
local/nvidia-settings 460.56-1
Tool for configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver

replace those with https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/nvid … x-settings and https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/libxnvctrl-390xx

remove the xorg.conf , it has nothing useful in it.

Does the 20-nvidia.conf belong to a package (if so, which one?) or did you create it yourself ?

Re: worse performance with nvidia gpu than on ubuntu

made that file to test if it changes anything
removed it along with xorg.conf

did just that and got a ~20 fps drop accompanied by mouse input lag
replacing libglx.so with libglx.so.390.141 did not help either
running out of ideas what could be the cause

Re: worse performance with nvidia gpu than on ubuntu

please post full output of lspci -k and a fresh xorg log .

What are you using to measure fps ?

Re: worse performance with nvidia gpu than on ubuntu

it's portal 2 on the same map and settings
decreased fps persists in all games though

Re: worse performance with nvidia gpu than on ubuntu

The xorg log and lspci -k match what I expected and don't show problems.

Portal2 is  a steam game and the fps difference may be due to changes in steam / proton between arch & ubuntu versions .

Check https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be … g#Graphics for benchmarks .

My personal favorites to compare graphics performance are unigine-superposition and unigine-valley as they demand a lot from the card and use native OpenGL functionality .

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
