[SOLVED] Google Chrome does not play audio on youtube and other sites

Your audio plays fine in VLC and other desktop players, but online, forget it. Youtube in particular fails to play videos and say reboot your computer unable to play audio.

Here is the solution -

rm -rf ~/.config/pavucontrol-qt
rm -rf ~/.config/pulse
reboot

That just sounds to me like your chrome was configured to play back from the wrong device. So instead of taking the sledgehammer to the pulse config (... it would suffice to do a

systemctl --user restart pulseaudio

instead of rebooting) you'll want to check the device it's playing to with pavucontrol and move accordingly.

I did that. It had absolutely no effect!
