[SOLVED] Dynamic power management of NVIDIA Optimus not working

I've been following this guide to configure optimus manager to use dynamic power management. My GPU is GTX 1650 (Mobile) and my CPU is i7-9750H so theoretically RD3 should be working.
My optimus-manager.conf file is simply

[nvidia]
dynamic_power_management=fine

But after switching to hybrid mode and running cat /proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/0000:01:00.0/power I get Runtime D3 status: Disabled.
Also when I run nvidia-smi it shows Xorg as one of the programs, which may be related.

Installed software:

nvidia 460.67-4
linux 5.11.10.arch1-1
lightdm 1:1.30.0-4

Ensure the nvidia module is loaded w/ the feature enabled, see https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Lin … ement.html and "systool -vm nvidia"

Also when I run nvidia-smi it shows Xorg as one of the programs

Meaning you're (likely) running the desktop session on the nvidia chip and it can never fully power down - is that intended?

I've checked the contents of /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000\:01\:00.0/power/control file and it already is auto. It seems that these settings are managed by optimus-manager.

and "systool -vm nvidia"

It returns

Do you load the nvidia module w/ some NVreg_DynamicPowerManagement option?

I think that in hybrid mode Xorg should be handled by integrated graphics card so it may be the reason why power management is disabled?

I've enabled it and now it seems to be working (indicator light changes), but the xorg still shows up as process when i run nvidia-smi (there's also a noticeable screen tear when scrolling web pages that wasn't present when nvidia was powered off).

there's also a noticeable screen tear when scrolling web pages that wasn't present when nvidia was powered off

The nvidia chip does not seem to be driving any output - do you prime-run the output or maybe previously did use the xf86-video-intel driver instead of the modesetting one?

If I understood correctly then RTD3 just puts the gpu in super low power mode so I guess it should still be available?

The nvidia chip does not seem to be driving any output - do you prime-run the output or maybe previously did use the xf86-video-intel driver instead of the modesetting one?

I didn't use prime-run for firefox when the screen tearing happened. I still have xf86-video-intel installed, should a different one be used when using nvidia dpm?

I've checked and it turned out that optimus manager's default is modesetting driver. I've updated the conf file with

[intel]
driver=intel

and now everything works flawlessly. Thank you for the help. I'll mark the thread as solved.
