Login to virtual console (tty) through a display manager

After logging in using a display manager, is it possible to get to a virtual console session (tty) instead of a desktop environment?

Depends on the DM - you'd probably have to hook into the pre-session scripts to run agetty w/ autologin on a different VT with root rights (what means the DM must not have dropped those rights at this point) and for the target user.
