Re: I need a media player that works?

I was using mpd and pympd which at the time seemed the best choice. I tried alot of them but don't remember why i choose pympd.

Anyway MPD packed up on me the other day so i started up amarok.
it seems pritty good and im not a kde/qt lover by any stretch of the imagination.

Yep, and banshee and muine require mono
I plan to move to mpd too, when I configure it properly, default config is useless.

that's why I use rhythmbox smile, (and because I like it better than banshee, and I'm not interested in mpd), but still I installed mono just to run last-exit, and it's worth it big_smile

Re: I need a media player that works?

I use ncmpc to manage my queue, and hotkeys running various mpc commands for everything else.

Re: I need a media player that works?

Current favorite: Quodlibet. Good interface, lots of functionality, no Mono crap, not terrible with resources. On the other hand it's slow to start up and requires Gnome stuff.

Might switch to it at some point: Exaile. Same benefits as Quod Libet, but has more features and starts faster, and I think I like the UI better. However, Exaile's sorting of songs in playlists sucks very badly. Like Quodlibet, it requires the GStreamer gconf plugin.

(Not sure how the SVN version is, but it at least doesn't require gconf.)

Re: I need a media player that works?

I use amaroK more than mpd because amaroK seems to put less stress on the hard drive compared to mpd or even xmms.

Re: I need a media player that works?

There is new GTK+ client for MPD in Community: gimmix.
It is useable already (though there is much space for improvements) and is improving very quickly. And it doesn't require gnome or python deps (unlike other GTK+ MPD clients).

Re: I need a media player that works?

Well what do you know, 0.2.7b has fixed up Exaile's playlists. I'm using it right now, and IMO it's great...

I like the simplicity of Pygmy.

The original pygmy developer (I formerly did package-handling for Gentoo for them) has officially declared Sonata Pygmy's successor.

Anyway, my taste has shifted to ncmpc, I'm turning into a console whore, slowly but surely.
