is there a reason i can only download stuff at 20k? this is really annoying when getting large files. it wasn't like this before, but now nothing will go past 20k. is this a pacman thing or a server thing? either way, is there some way around it?
thanks.

I'll ask around at our next LUG (Linux Users Group) and see if there is anyone that would be interested in hosting mirrors. We have a big install-fest this weekend so there should be quite a few people there that might have the means to do it.

read the newsrelease it tells you how to use netselect to adjust your pacman.conf server list

Also, doesn't anybody ever look at and edit /etc/pacman.conf ? Why wouldn't anybody reorder that list ? From day one I used a German mirror. Occaionally pacman.conf got reset and I wondered "why is this update so slow ? - oh wait, it's using the master ftp server !" and I changed it back to first using a German mirror ....
Even without that tool one should be able to reorder the list of mirrors somewhat.....

ah when i started with arch the archlinux.org server was at the bottom and i got pathetically sloww speeds because it would go through all the farthest away servers first (ibiblio, etc). i moved archlinux.org to the top and it made a huge difference.
so like andy says look at your pacman.conf and make the logical server the top one and then the most logical order for the rest.
