I had just finished setting up arch and had logged in a few times use xfce4. After restarting grub proceeds as usual then it hangs at
Starting version 248.3-2-arch
/dev/sdaX: clean, XXX/XXX files, XXX/XXX blocks I restarted several times already without issue, this just started suddenly, nothing that I press seems to help and I tried adding
random.trust_cpu=on to the kernel parameters by pressing e on grub and adding this as a line at the bottom which didn't work
I then tried again adding it at the end of the line starting "linux" but still no luck
Thanks

Update 1:
I've also now tried booting into my live usb and repeating the pacstrap command to reinstall all the base stuff, I then reinstalled the intel-ucode microcode and regenerated the grub, still no luck
Update 2:
I've just learned that I can get into a terminal with CTRL+ALT+F2 and log in as both root and my user and access my files, run pacman etc, but I still don't know where to go from here. I tried reinstalling xorg, lightdm and the lightdm slick greeter which I was using and I enabled lightdm but still no luck getting anywhere at startup

Update 3
I got rid of the "quiet" parameter in the grub 'e' menu and I'm getting it start up with all green [ OK ] up until
...
[ OK ] reached target graphical interface
_and then the underscore just blinks indefinitely

After logging in using CTRL-ALT-F2 as your regular user, try starting xfce using startxfce4 instead of lightdm. If this works, then something is wrong with lightdm. It it doesn't, it might display additional error messages to help debug the problem.

Managed to solve this. I opened tty2 with "CTRL+ALT+F2" then logged in as root, tried to "startxfce4" and got an error about my keyboard configuration file (of all things) so I deleted the file with rm PATH and reinstalled xfce4 with pacman. Rebooted and I'm in, lightdm started as usual and as expected and everything seems to be working fine
