[SOLVED] Steam Library in /root/usr

When I set up Arch I created a separate partition for my home folder, now I notice that I have ample space in my root folder but /home is getting a bit tight.

Steam Games take up a large junk in the home folder. I was wondering if it is advisable to create a Steam Library under /root/usr/local to make better use of the available space on the root partition? However, that requires root access and Steam doesn't let me create a folder like that.

Is it advisable/feasible to have a Steam Library on the root partition?

From wiki Steam - Library folders:

Steam installs games into a directory under LIBRARY/steamapps/common/. LIBRARY normally is ~/.steam/root but you can also have multiple library folders (Steam > Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders).

including, for example, /opt/steam or /mnt/usb .

Thanks for your feedback, yes /opt/steam would be a good candidate. However, I cannot create a steam library under /opt/ (or outside the home partition for that matter) as it is read-only without root privileges?

You can create a /opt/steam folder and then chown that to your user: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/File_p … _ownership
