Automatically set fancontrol DEVPATH=hwmon1 based on i2c or i2c-mux

Does anyone know of a way to set "DEVPATH=hwmon1" to automatically select between two (2) different paths? My linux box may have an i2c-mux installed.

DEVPATH=hwmon1=devices/platform/soc/21a0000.i2c/i2c-2/i2c-6/6-002e
or
DEVPATH=hwmon1=devices/platform/soc/21a0000.i2c/i2c-2/2-002e

I am new to this, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
