Troubleshooting Computer Hangs and Automatic Shutdowns

Hello All,
Any help would be appreciated!
While I am doing usual stuff,
My computer becomes unresponsive though the screen is still visible, the sound begins to repeat loop, screen goes black for some time, becomes responsive again and shuts down.

I do not expect direct help as I have used pretty vague details <and unless you possess a certain crystal ball you can't help me>.

And I am not asking for help directly but I am asking for help in how to proceed further. Do I look into some kind of logs? or run some kind of ascid scripts?
I have used dmesg previously to troubleshoot some application crashes.

System Specification:
Acer spin 5,
8gb ram i7 8th gen

 uname -a
 Linux archlinux 5.12.12-arch1-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri, 18 Jun 2021 21:59:22 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I am running dwm as a window manager
I run applications like : Zoom Meetings, Firefox, Google Chrome, some simple bash scripts etc.

Yours Linuxing,
DireWolf

Re: Troubleshooting Computer Hangs and Automatic Shutdowns

Check/post whether any journal was written

sudo journalctl -b-1 #-1 for the boot prior to your current one, -2 for the one before that....

however this sounds quiet kernel panicky potentially in combination with a thermal issue (... maybe something to try to monitor) so there's no guarantee that logs are written out.

Re: Troubleshooting Computer Hangs and Automatic Shutdowns

Thanks @V1del
I too have a hunch it is related to overheating up...
Though I can't find any strong references in the log that you mentioned. I had a script that shows me the thermal temps, i do not distinctly remember noticing any high thermal temps...
What keywords should I be searching for in the log you mentioned?

Just For Information:
I did a pacman -Syu in the previous boot,
though i am experiencing the hang issue from before that

Edit: I just noticed that my battery is surprisingly low (40% after about 30 mins the hang) , it is anomalistic since i use my laptop as a workstation( with external monitor and keyboard peripherals...) and its plugged in all the time.
Is there someway i can verify that the laptop battery is compromised?

Re: Troubleshooting Computer Hangs and Automatic Shutdowns

Whether there are any obvious errors/crashes towards the end, in doubt post it here in code tags: https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode

Do you want the entire journal?
I can do so by some other service..

I thought that only the last 10 mintues would be contextual

Re: Troubleshooting Computer Hangs and Automatic Shutdowns

If the system is unable to flush logs to disk, use netconsole (you need another running linux in your lan)
