[SOLVED] dina-font disappearing periodically

Hi,

I have been using dina-font sometime now with urxvt but periodically dina-font disappears and a blocky fallback font takes its place. I didn't see this behaviour when I first started using dina-font. The disappearance happens most often after boot but sometimes it occurs multiple times on the same session. I have resolved this by reinstalling dina-font with pacman, which works fine but is not a very elegant solution. My dina-font version is 2.92-10. When everything works fine the font files can be seen as expected:

However when the fallback font kicks in the previous command doesn't output anything. It seems to me that the actual font files are getting deleted and I can't seem to figure out what causes that.

I've tried different fonts but so far I only experience this behaviour with dina-font. I've tried searching the forums, the wiki and the internet (maybe i've missed something obvious) but I haven't been able to come up with a satisfying fix.

Can someone point me to the right direction to fix this? Thank you.

I have the the same problem occurring with both dina-font and its powerline patched version. After some time fontconfig just loses them from the cache (they cannot be seen using fc-list and thus by other applications). The font files are still in place, they're just not being found. Rebuilding cache and rebooting doesn't seem to fix the problem. Only reinstalling the package fixes the problem for some time. This is mildly infuriating. It is strange that this problem doesn't seem to affect other bitmap fonts (or it's just really freshly introduced bug that breaks all the bitmap fonts and it's just a coincidence that me and OP got it using dina). I'll do some more testing and I'll come back if I find something interesting.

Thanks, after seeing this bug a lot today, I started suspecting that it has to do something with chromium since I was configuring my browser today and the bug happened when I relaunched the browser (not every time though). I'll make sure to switch to otb format. Again, thank for pointing out this fontcache-clearing pango behaviour.
