CD Audio Playback Problem With MPlayer

I have been using MPlayer a lot lately, and although I am able to play everything else I've tried without a problem, CDs aren't playing cleanly. They aren't exactly skipping...more like stuttering regularly. I have looked over (hopefully not too briefly) the mplayer and cdparanoia man pages looking for an answer, and it appears mplayer is playing the audio as rawaudio instead of wav, which is the cdparanoia default. However, I am unable to correct this. Has anyone experienced this problem? Is there a line I can add to the mplayer config file that will correct it? Or am I just way off on this one?

Re: CD Audio Playback Problem With MPlayer

Do other CD players work fine?  Just want to make sure it is actually an mplayer issue, and not a hardware issue.

Re: CD Audio Playback Problem With MPlayer

Oh yeah, I should have mentioned that. DVDs play fine on the same drive, and I have played CDs with Audacious and Amarok.

Re: CD Audio Playback Problem With MPlayer

What options/arguments are you using with mplayer just now?  Some of the things you can set through "-cdda" might help.  Refer to the manual for all options.

Re: CD Audio Playback Problem With MPlayer

I looked through the man page for mplayer, and there isn't anything that stands out under -cdda. However, today I installed BMPx to try it out, and it did the same thing. As far as I know, BMP also uses cdparanoia (not sure if it's for playing cds or for ripping), but I will try different things.

I might just install audacious again just to see if cds work well there. If not, then something in my system changed recently, but that is unlikely.

Breathe, thread, breathe!

Well, I installed Audacious, and CDs play perfectly, so it's not my system. Has anybody had success playing CDs with MPlayer? I would really like to get it working, and I can't find anything online.

Re: CD Audio Playback Problem With MPlayer

Works fine for me using the command "mplayer cdda://1"

Re: CD Audio Playback Problem With MPlayer

This is what I see when I try to play CDs. Is it the same in your case? The rawaudio format is what I'm concerned with...is that correct, or should it be WAV?

Re: CD Audio Playback Problem With MPlayer

I'll check when I find my audio cd (I only have one at the moment: Pulp's Greatest Hits big_smile).  Stay tuned, till next time.
