Merging two buttons

There is a nearly useless button on my thinkpad keyboard that takes half of the place for left shift (sorry for posting link to shop but I can' find anything better):

Is it possible to merge it with shift without screwing up the other two (< and >), and how to check name of that button?

Re: Merging two buttons

You mean the key with the pipe and backslash????
You can learn about it w/ "xev -event keyboard" and eg. xmodmap it to shift, but certainly the pipe is not even remotely "useless" on a posix system.
