Gdm 2.16.1-2 login doesn't work anymore

Broken it is, every attempt just returns back to the login screen and I have to go to console, login and start X manually.

I'm not sure when it started, propably after I played around with compiz, but I have removed gdm and it's files after that and then reinstalled, but still doesn't work.

Logs don't seem to give any clues why.

Just checked dependencies and none them are missing either.

Logfiles? Debug options? "Doesn't work" is not something we can help you with.

What I mean is, it just returns back to the login screen after entering the correct username and password.

On the other hand, I just noticed this in my /var/log/gdm/:0.log:

AUDIT: Thu Nov  9 09:43:23 2006: 3324 X: client 4 rejected from local host
  Auth name: MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 ID: -1

I don't remember seeing that before.
