[SOLVED] Packagekitd has a very, very high consumption

After updating to Plasma 5.22 this happens to me constantly (see pic), and although I am a little overloaded with the ram, I feel when it happens, the pc slows down a bit for a few seconds until I kill the process again, I do not think this is the procedure because previously it didn't happen, thanks in advance.

Also https://github.com/PackageKit/PackageKit/issues/460
Possible "workaround": https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1354074#c22

Did you btw. see the warning that says "don't use packagekit because it's shit"?
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Pacman … #Graphical

Also you could use eg. https://gitlab.com/thiagomacieira/rssanalyse for a nice summary of the PIDs smaps instead of ugly meaningless screenshots :-P

Re: [SOLVED] Packagekitd has a very, very high consumption

Thanks for your answer, I have had problems with the internet these days, but putting it aside, I appreciate your time and your trustworthiness, I have reviewed the links that you suggested and if I have found the warning (laughs), it is quite specific, but not I actually knew it at the time I wanted to test PackageKit, so this is the result. Following the links and delving a little more, they recommend completely uninstalling or deactivating it, and it has brought me another problem, when using pacman from the command line, it downloads the packages again and again and although I manually verify that they are in the cache, it only downloads them every time I try to install something even though I already have them, now my question is whether to close this thread and open a new one with the problem that PackageKit left me, or to continue here anyway, thanks.

Yes, please open a new thread and post the complete "--debug" enabled output of pacman and also

ls -l /var/cache/pacman/pkg

Re: [SOLVED] Packagekitd has a very, very high consumption

I know this is an old thread and yes I do know AlmaLinux is RHEL based and has little to do with Arch smile

But thanks anyway! FWIW and for google ofcource, you never know who will be helped by little pieces of info like this .... I didn't had this problem untill recently, and to be fair are not low on memory. But its not infinite and I do monitor what's going on from time to time. I think part of the problem is the amount of software that is in your repo's. Added some 3rd party repo's recently that have a policy of "throw in everything we ever build in 1 dir and let the packagemanager decide for itself", that is when PackageKitd started to consume gigs of memory over time! Its a piece of software that is there to facilitate efficient software handling for crying out loud!

In my defence: since apparently this has been a problem for ages on RH bases distro's and never had a decent fix, I'll take the time to thank this community for consistently provinding the Linux community at large with indepth and usefull information.
