I'm a beginner with Arch and Linux as a whole, but I recently managed to successfully install Arch on my laptop dual-booting with UEFI Windows 10. I set up Ly as my display manager and Budgie as my desktop environment, and all was fine and dandy for a while.
However, I'm currently unable to log in to Budgie or the shell or any of the other options provided through Ly, as whenever I enter credentials for any user it returns the error "pam transaction aborted." I found a few solutions online but they all (naturally) require access to the system.
After a bit of research, I read that if I press ctrl+f2 during boot the OS will boot into a shell, so I tried that. Lo and behold, doing so opened the shell upon startup, only for it to vanish after about a second and be replaced with the Ly login screen again.
I'd really rather not attempt a fresh installation but it seems entirely possible that I'll need to. In order to avoid that, how can I access the shell and start actually doing things again?
P.S. Apologies if any part of this is unclear or unacceptable - this is my first time posting here and I may not be able to keep on top of everything I need to fully. If you need clarification on any points I'd be happy to do my best to provide.

Thank you for your reply, but as far as I can tell, I'm not able to do what is said in that link as I cannot seem to access a command line of any sort.
If I'm grossly misunderstanding, I apologize, but it seems that I first need to find a way to run commands at all.

Kernel parameters that are mentioned in this link are applied before booting into the system from the boot loader.

Oh, perfect, thank you very much. The multi-user target worked like a charm. I guess I should've read more thoroughly, lol. Cheers.
