Gnome 2.16 - blank screen at logout.

I installed gnome with gdm.  Placed gdm in my rc.conf and it starts fine at boot.  I can login as a normal user, but when I log out, I get a blank screen  :cry: In addition, nothing happens when i do crtl+alt+F1.
