Disabling Pango for Firefox 2.0

Anyone else seemingly unable to disable Pango in the new version of Firefox? I've set

export MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1

in /etc/profile, but Firefox still acts exactly as if Pango font rendering is enabled - the interface refreshes very slowly (*much* slower than Firefox 1.5 with Pango disabled), scrolling is ass slow, and bold fonts look fatter than they ought to (as in 1.5.x with Pango enabled, and yes, I'm using bytecode hinting). Has the config option changed? Is it FIREFOX_DISABLE_PANGO or something now?
