Programs started as sudo don't look the way I want

I'm not sure if this topic is for this section but considering it's about applications, I can only hope I've posted it in the right section.

Here's the thing: when I start a program with sudo (such as any file manager, like pcmanfm, for instance) it's always white and bright which is literally murder for my eyes. So I logged in as root, set a theme and logged out. While I was logged in as root, the file manager had the theme and colors I wanted it to have. But when I log back to my user (not root) and start it as sudo, it still appears bright and white.

Why sudoed programs don't accept the theme I've set and how do I force them to accept it?
