pacman just updated beryl to:
[jp@darkwood ~]$ pacman -Q |grep beryl
beryl-core-svn 1119-1
beryl-dbus-svn 1090-1
beryl-manager-svn 1117-1
beryl-plugins-svn 1118-1
beryl-settings-svn 1090-1
and finally it works great!
To run it you need to set some options in xorg.conf (look in wiki), then just run:
[jp@darkwood ~]$ beryl-manager
Everything works very, very smooth on my Radeon 9800 with DRI drivers (no fglrx!).
I found only two problems:
- I can't make movies and OpenGL applications transparent
- I can't play movies in gl/gl2 (mplayer), they are flickering

These new versions don't use texture-from-pixmap by default. Try enabling and disabling it in beryl-manager to see if anything changes.

New version crashes like before:
beryl-core-svn 1133-1
beryl-dbus-svn 1090-1
beryl-manager-svn 1136-1
beryl-plugins-svn 1130-1
beryl-settings-svn 1135-1
When I enter "beryl-manager" in terminal - X server crashes.
Only the previous version was working correctly.

Same problem here (Radeon 9500Pro).
beryl-core-svn 1660-1
beryl-manager-svn 1660-1
beryl-plugins-svn 1668-1
beryl-settings-svn 1668-1
AIGLX etc. seems to work fine.

You should try the --use-tfp (default again for a while now) and --use-copy (the one that probably worked for you) modes. --use-copy doesn't use AIGLX or so, but was the default in that one release that you reported working.

for the first time ever, Beryl+AIGLX works perfect with open source DRI on my radeon 9800..
