Polkit - authentication is required to manage system services

Hi,

since a few weeks I am getting this obscure "Authentication is required to manage system services or other units" password promt in Gnome, when ever I e.g. connect to a printer, phone, thumb drive, etc.

Until today I've just ignored it but I can't anymore. I've locked myself out (too many wrong attempts), after entering several passwords to see what it does.

I understand that this promt came from Polkit. I've never heard of it before.
I also understand that I may suffer from the Polkit does not properly acknowledge that I belong to the `wheel` group issue.

My questions now are:

* Can I just configure the bypass password prompt and will be able to connect to a printer, phone, thumb drive, etc.? If not,

* What can I do to fix this issue? I cannot ignore the prompt anymore and cannot connect to any devices.

Have you set a password for root ?

Please post output of

$ grep name_of_your_user /etc/passwd /etc/group /etc/shadow

Bypassing the password prompt globally seems a bad idea to me, no idea atm about the rest of your post..
