I've recently installed archlinux and xorg with kde, but when I log in to kde (and when kmix starts in the tray) volume adjusting screen comes up and decreases the volume all the way down to zero. The screen stays in the middle of the screen and even when I drag the volume up again I can see it decrease down to zero.
I know that sound is working because I can play a file and quickly increase the volume for a second until this 'problem' brings the volume back down to zero again...
I've tried quiting kmix but it starts right back up again and again...
now I'm lost what I can do to fix it.
Any suggestion is appreciated, let me know if there is anything I can try.
Thanks in advance

I'd be tempted to look at Input Actions in the Control Center to see if maybe you have a messed up shortcut to VolumeDown... or something similar..

If you quit kmix and save your session upon exit but it still restarts then I would suggest adding kmix to the list of applications to be excluded from sessions in the kcontrol sessions manager module. The entire occurance that you have related is very odd. tmaynard's suggestion is good but if this is not the issue then I'd really be tempted to suggest there is a sound application being started which is lowering the settings during runtime. And if this is true then it will make no difference whether or not kmix begins with each session.
