Electron apps ignore preferred browser

Using KDE plasma: Dumb question that I can't figure out - electron apps ignore my preferred browser. Issue started when I made a custom menu entry that starts firefox in a specific profile.

Electron apps (discord, heroic etc) continue trying to start in this alternative profile, while it's not default. attempted solutions:

  • Have removed the menu entry

  • Have reset the default webbrowser in plasma settings.

  • Have manually checked & edited applications/mimetypes.conf, both local & global.

  • searched using find for a second firefox.desktop file, but no results

  • reinstalled firefox

  • re-generated mime db using update-mime-database

A potential clue to the cause is that

xdg-mime query default scheme-handler/https
xdg-mime query default scheme-handler/http

returns no value, even though it is set in the mimetypes.conf. the x-scheme-handler variant does return the correct value, as expected.

Thanks for the help!

xdg-open behaves as expected, I'm at a loss. Any help would be appreciated!
