Laptop. Problem with discrete GPU.

Hello everyone.
I'm new to arch, it took me almost 3 days to figure out and install arch with kde on my ASUS FX505DT, so don't blame me if something stupid is written next.

The main problem is that the HDMI output does not work.
I've actually googled similar problems, but they don't all look exactly like mine. My laptop have Vega 8 and GTX 1650 Mobile.

xrandr doesn't even show Hdmi output and I don't understand why, because both gpu detected in lspci

My guess is the problem is with xorg.conf. It is empty now because if I use nvidia-xconfig the system boots into a black screen. But idk how to manually fill it correctly.

Re: Laptop. Problem with discrete GPU.

That your xorg.conf is empty is indeed correct. Try running sudo nvidia-modprobe (I think it's called that) and then restart Xorg

Fun fact: I actually have no clue what I'm doing

Re: Laptop. Problem with discrete GPU.

the nvidia kernel module is loaded, nvidia-smi wouldn't work if it wasn't.

See: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME#Reverse_PRIME but ignore the xorg.conf for now and just follow the last part regarding running --setprovideroutputsource (... use --listproviders to see relevant names), if it doesn't list nvidia at all, then do set up the config, replace intel as relevant (though in the way it is used in that example the name is quite irrelevant)

Also, maybe post your xorg log so we can see what is detected where and how.

And please use [ code ] rather than [ quote ] for command/file outputs.

Hello again. Thank you for reply! This https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME#Reverse_PRIME help me. I read this before, but not carefully...
I use $ nvidia-xconfig --prime  to update the X conf file and now both screens are working and KDE DIsplay Configuration working too. But now before login to KDE only HDMI output working, and built-in monitor turns on only after login to kde.

Re: Laptop. Problem with discrete GPU.

nvidia-xconfig has a track record of creating unnecessarily verbose configurations, though it might have done something more sensible than usual due to the explicit --prime argument. Maybe post the xorg.conf it created.
